Vancouver top ten

This city is truly amazing! Especially when it is sunny but even when it rains. I am always thankful for the rain because I know it helps our trees grow and we have wonderful trees all over the city.

I love the Aquabus. Here we are entertaining out of town friends with an Aquabus ride from Beach Avenue to Granville Island. $5 round trip.

Ice cream on a hot day is pretty great too.

Ski season over

The weather has been gorgeous here. Whistler snow is melting... Bruce is skiing today (last ski day of the season). Poor guy had to hire Judy again to watch the children while I am at art class.

I wonder if Bruce will be buying another pass for next year? He did use 4 out 5 days this season.

I have house guests too this weekend but they will be spending the day with my brother and his family.

Haze-L

My daughter loves this hat. We've already determined her rapper name - Haze-L. Hopefully the recession will be over by the time she gets into the 'biz". Otherwise she might be going the cubic zirconia route for the bling in her medallions and other cheaper metals.

Apparently that is what is happening in the hip hop industry at the momrnt and artists with the cash to keep it real are disgusted.

Keep it real Haze-L!

In this pic, she is already telling her #1 fan (her sister) hands off her wheels.

Playgrounds

I'm a huge fan of unstructured play. Recently, I read a great article in the May issue of Canadian Today's Parent by childhood fitness advocate Silken Lauman about just that. "Play experiences build strength, flexibilty and balance in different and important ways" than organised sports. I was surprised to read that physios see overuse injuries in 10 year olds. A child who only played soccer for example.

I am very blessed to live in Vancouver, a beautiful city where there are a number of parks walking distance from my house.

As my daughters get older, I plan to continue making trips to the park a common occurrence for games of tag, capture the flag, frisbee, tennis, etc. Now that they are little, naturally, we are at the park almost every day weather permitting.

These are a few photos of my 3 year old climbing a park structure (it was a little scary to watch at first!) and she going down a cool zip line thing at another park. She must have tried it ten times at least.

Until next blog... adios.

First class

Yesterday I started a new class at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The six week class is called INSPIRATION, EXPRESSION, AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS. Taught by Lori Goldberg, it was and will continue to be a FUN class. If I can figure out how to post pics, I'll add a few from an exercise we did.

Bruce found suitable child care as he was working. He started shooting an indie feature and Sunday was his first day. Hopefully he won't have to work every Sunday as I am sure the kids would enjoy spending 5 hours of one on one time with him. Actually I am sure they would enjoy spending any amount of time with him as he seems to be very busy these days.

Now to see about posting photos!

Sunflower seeds

Yesterday I was at my friend's house and her kids went crazy for a package of sunflower seeds - raw, shelled, unsalted. She uses them in the bird feeder as they don't sprout when they fall on the ground. I am adding them to my list of snacks for my kids. They have fibre too (BONUS!!!).

First Blog!

Very exciting.

At Starbucks, I have figured out that I can order a short coffee in my "tall" cup and get a lot of coffee and never have to ask for "room for milk". Saving a few coins there.
